Are you a fan of dark beers or just curious to explore beyond the usual lagers? Join me on my journey of tasting Super Bock Stout, a Portuguese reinterpretation of the traditional Irish stout that truly surprised me.

First Impressions
I’m always searching for new beers to experience, and Super Bock Stout caught my attention right away. When I poured it into the glass, I was greeted with a deep black color and subtle ruby highlights under the light. A creamy, persistent foam crowned the pint, setting the stage for what was about to come.
On the nose and palate, it delivers notes of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and caramel, with a soft hint of dried fruits. The body is medium, the texture smooth, and the finish has a gentle sweetness that balances the roasted bitterness perfectly.
Style & Balance
- Style: Stout
- ABV: 5%
- Bitterness (IBU): Moderate, balanced between sweetness and roast
It’s not as heavy or intense as an Imperial Stout, which makes it approachable for newcomers to dark beers, yet still satisfying for those who already love the style.
Pairing Moments
Of course, you can try some pairings. Super Bock Stout may shines with:
Chocolate desserts like brownies or mousse
Grilled meats, where the roasted malt echoes the char on the meat
Blue and aged cheeses, balancing intensity with intensity
Why I Loved It
What struck me most about Super Bock Stout is how it proves that even a traditional brand can step out of the ordinary and surprise us. For me, this beer embodies what I love most in my quest for new flavors: every glass tells a new story, blending tradition with creativity.
So if you’re looking for a stout that is flavorful, smooth, and rooted in Portuguese brewing tradition, Super Bock Stout deserves a spot on your tasting list.

Enjoyed the Super Bock lager that comes in a red label.
Sadly their stout doesn’t seem to be available in Ireland.
Will look out for it if it does appear!
I’m a fan of the red label lager too! Luckily here in Brazil we get to enjoy both styles, definitely worth trying if you get the chance.
